Each January, over 1,000 surfers paddle from Wategos Beach to the Byron Bay Surf Lifesavers Club on Main Beach for charity. Join them for a full-filled day on the water while you take in the breathtaking sights of the Cape Byron marine playground.

The iconic Wategos Beach is the most stunning setting for a beach BBQ with the family. Fire up one of the public barbecues and tuck in at a picnic table overlooking the bay. 4) Ballina Food Truck Festival – Saturday, January 26
The Ballina Food Truck Festival is a family friendly event running from 3pm-9pm at Cherry Street Sports Ballina, serving up some of the best cuisine the Northern Rivers has to offer. Come prepared with camping chairs or picnic blankets and relax on the green while listening to live music, or dine inside and grab a beer from one of the bars stocked up with the tastiest, local craft beers. 5) Bangalow Markets – Sunday, January 27
Venture into the hinterland and take a day trip to the charming nearby town of Bangalow. Boasting over 300 stalls showcasing a huge variety of artisan products such as ceramics and woodwork, fresh produce and baked goods, and delicious food and coffee, the Bangalow Markets are the perfect, lazy Sunday retreat. Peruse the market stalls with a coffee in hand while enjoying live entertainment performed by talented local musicians.
