We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the winter months are truly a fantastic time to visit Byron Bay. There are heaps of special events and festivals happening every weekend for the locals to enjoy. Not to mention it’s the best time to spot the whale migration, go on bush walks, chase waterfalls and get crafty. The low season has a calmer vibe and the community relishes in the chance to epitomise the region’s motto “Cheer Up, Slow Down, Chill Out“.
One of our favourite winter festivals is the annual Lismore Lantern Parade. This year, the parade is set to take place on Saturday, 22nd of June 2019. The vibrant event is put together to celebrate the longest day of the year; the Winter Solstice.
The festival kicks off at noon with a unique art and craft market, street food vans, children’s activities, workshops, lantern decorating and a festival stage featuring local musicians and dancers. Around sunset, beautiful illuminated puppets in the Lismore Library tell the story for the year and the Lantern Parade dances through the streets of Lismore culminating with a fiery finale and fireworks display. The event continues on into the late hours with music, dance and performance.
A festival that’s sure to light up the darkness on these long, chilly nights. Come along with all the family and be prepared to fill your belly and warm your heart!
For more information, visit the website here. The town of Lismore is a just short hinterland drive away from our beachside on Belongil resort. Take advantage of our special winter warmer rates and book your escape to Byron Bay now.
