The Byron Shire and surrounding hinterlands have become a hub for boutique distilleries producing artisanal rums and gins along with breweries creating tasty batches of premium, local craft beers.
Take a journey through the cellar doors and discover the process of how these spirits and beers are made while enjoying a taste for yourself. Here’s our guide to the local distilleries and breweries that we recommend pulling up a stump at during your stay.
Cape Byron Distillery
There is no better way to spend an afternoon than strolling around the subtropical rainforest of the Cape Byron Distillery and discovering how the abundance of wild, native botanicals infuse the gin. Start off with a refreshing Brookie’s & Tonic, garnished with their signature native finger lime and aniseed myrtle. Guided by your “Spiritual Advisor”, learn about the art of the distillation process while pinpointing the unique flavours.
Round off the tour relaxing on the deck overlooking the hinterland sipping on a tasty ‘Rainforest Martini’ and of course it would be rude not to take a bottle home with you for later!
The cellar door is open for tours and gin tastings every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 3:30pm and bookings are essential. Reservations can be made via the Cape Byron Distillery website.
