Chasing Waterfalls in Byron Bay

Minyon Falls

The Byron Bay Waterfalls are spectacular sights to behold all within a short hinterland drive from our Belongil Beach Resort. These secluded spots are tucked away in the nearby national parks and are the perfect out-of-town places to explore during your stay.

Here are our top 3 scenic spots to wander where the wifi is weak…

1. Killen Falls

Just a short drive from Byron Bay, Killen Falls is the most accessible waterfall to our Belongil resort. This hidden gem is located on Killen Falls Drive, Tintenbar amongst the rolling hinterland of the Ballina Shire. The beautiful falls cascade down into a stunning rainforest waterhole. This is the perfect spot to cool down and take a dip on a hot day especially if you only have an hour or so to spare.

2. Minyon Falls

Minyon Falls is one of the largest and most impressive waterfalls to be found in the Northern Rivers region. It is nestled in the picturesque Nightcap National Park, not far from Mt. Wollumbin (Commonly referred to locally as Mount Warning).

Take in the breathtaking panorama of the falls and surrounding rainforest from the viewing platform close to the carpark. Feeling energetic? Challenge yourself to a rewarding 13km return to the bottom.  Meander through the forest past the lush creeks that lead down to the plunging waters below.

3. Protesters Falls

Also found in the rugged ranges of the Nightcap National Park is the World Heritage-listed Protesters Falls and is another must-see spot on your hinterland road trip. Follow the woodland trail through the peaceful subtropical rainforest. The pleasant 1.4km round trip to view the magnificent falls is well worth getting off the beaten track for.

As with all of the waterfalls in the area, they are most spectacular after the rains so come prepared – take a camera, pack a picnic and most importantly bring a good sense of adventure!

We are more than happy to assist you with directions and guidance before you take off exploring. Book now and escape in nature.
